"NOT HERE TO BE LOVED""

"JE NE SUIS PAS LÀ POUR ÊTRE AIMÉ"

"... A film full of hope – love may happen at any time." In this touching film it happens to Jean Claude (Patrick Chesnais), a 50-year-old bailiff and Françoise (Anne Consigny), a career counsellor, who is considerably (but not embarrassingly) younger.
For Jean-Claude, who is suffering from a dull and painstaking work-routine, it opens a window into another world. The world of poetry, the world of tango.
He immerses in the tango lessons. Françoise, about to get married to her slightly clumsy groom and preparing for her wedding dance, is also there. She is alone and it is clear after the first meeting that a beautiful but difficult love-story is going to begin.

In the scenes of the tango lessons we can feel, how strongly and inseparably our own tango story is connected to Carlos di Sarli’s music and all the other tango characters.

The French producer Stéphane Brizé (born 1966), has chosen and typecasted all the parts very carefully. The actors embody their parts rather than play them: Jean Claude’s scenes together with his gruff father (Georges Wilson), the encounters with his son (Cyril Couton), the first - and second meeting – with Françoise. All this makes it a great and touching film.

IIs this a tango film? Or does the tango only come as a nice backdrop, as pleasing background music? No doubt, the screenplay - it is said that there had been 18 different versions - is closely connected to tango, as the complex soundtrack with Christoph H. Müller and Edmundo Makaroff (Gotan Tango) in the arrangements by Gustavo Beytelmann proves.

Finally we hope - together with those two people in love - that we may keep forever what inspires us. We are aware of the possibility though that those inspirations may only be beautiful dreams: Ensueños.

French – with German subtitles.
